Shruti Anant: Co-President

Drumroll for our wonderful Co-President, Shruti Anant! Shruti is a senior from Chantilly, VA double majoring in MCB and MHS, with the goal of pursuing a career focused on refugee health and advocacy for underserved communities. When she’s not valiantly leading AED, Shruti is a VUceptor and a tour guide, working with the Vanderbilt Institute of Global Health and conducting research on colon cancer. In her free time, Shruti loves vlogging/filmmaking, showing off her dance moves in cultural showcases, and eating Chipotle.

Jared Plotkin: Co-President

Here we have Jared Plotkin, one of our lovely Co-Presidents! Jared is a senior from Jacksonville, FL majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Biology. He’s currently applying to MD/PhD programs with a focus in researching neurodegenerative disorders. You can find Jared around campus as president of club soccer, founder of Vanderbilt for Veterans, a member of Sybbure conducting research in the Grueter lab, a leader in Dore for a Day, and an Introduction for Biology LA. When he’s not running around campus doing pre-med stuff, he is a below average chess enthusiast and mediocre cook.

James Ro: Senior Adviser

We’re excited to have James Ro back on the board as our Senior Advisor! James is a senior from Tampa, FL double majoring in Neuroscience and MHS, hoping to one day become a neurosurgeon. When he’s not helping the AED board keep everything straight, James is on the Neuroscience Majors Board and is a member of the Ken Lau Lab studying synaptic connections from the gut to the brain. In his free time, James also loves going to the beach and cliff jumping.

Elizabeth Huh: Mentoring Co-Chair

Please help me welcome back the incredible Elizabeth Huh, one of our Mentoring Co-Chairs! Elizabeth is a senior from York, PA majoring in Neuroscience with a Spanish minor, hoping to eventually become a surgeon. You can find Elizabeth around campus conducting research in the Gurevich Lab, working with Timmy Global Health, volunteering with Cards for a Cause, and being involved in KUSA. In her free time, Elizabeth enjoys playing tennis and following her passion as a foodie, creating lists of restaurants/cafes for all the cities she visits.

Yulia Lee: Mentoring Co-Chair

Here is Yulia Lee, one of our awesome Mentoring Co-Chairs! Yulia is a senior from Seoul, Korea double majoring in Neuroscience and Psychology hoping to one day be a pediatrician. Around campus, you can find Yulia as the vice president for AASA, the president of LiNK, and a member of VSVS. Outside of her premedy life, Yulia plays lacrosse with the Korean National Team, hunts for cute cafes, and spends too much time on TikTok.

Jessica Goldberg: Mentoring Co-Chair

Next up we have the incredible Jessica Goldberg, one of our Mentoring Co-Chairs! She is a senior from St. Louis, MO majoring in Educational Studies and hoping to one day be a pediatrician. Around campus, you can find her involved in research at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and the Ingram Scholars program. When she needs a break from the pre-med craziness, she loves Orange Theory, ice cream, and pop-up concerts around Nashville.

Jennifer Du: Shadowing Co-Chair

Jennifer Du is one of our board babies and is our newest Shadowing Co-Chair! Jennifer is a junior from Iowa City, IA majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Business. When she’s not setting you up with a physician to shadow, Jennifer conducts research in the Conn Lab and volunteers at VUMC. In her non-premed free time, Jennifer is a member of club swimming and plays violin in the Vanderbilt Concert Orchestra.

Destinee Johnson: Shadowing Co-Chair

And now we have the wonderful Destinee Johnson, coming back to the board this year as Shadowing Co-Chair! Destinee is a senior from Waycross, GA majoring in Neuroscience. Across campus, she can be found being the president of Every Nation Campus and researching social emotional expertise in the Bachorowski Lab. When she’s not being premedy, Destinee loves to go on adventures, ranging from hiking through Tennessee’s beautiful trails to climbing the trillion steps to get to the top of Machu Picchu! Recently, she has enjoyed taking advantage of Vandy’s fun course offerings, such as painting, as a method by which to get in touch with her artistic side.

Isabelle Newman: Shadowing Co-Chair

Isabelle Newman is one of our Shadowing Co-Chair babies this year! She is a sophomore from Philadelphia, PA who’s planning on majoring in MHS with a minor in Neuroscience. Isabelle is hoping to one day take a clinical position working with global health initiatives serving underprivileged communities, such as Doctors Without Borders. If you’re hoping to spot her around campus, she’s involved with VUDM and Project Sunshine. In her free time, Isabelle loves to bake and run; she even ran a half-marathon during quarantine!

Tonner Debeer: Service Co-Chair

We are so happy to welcome the awesome Tonner Debeer to the board this year as one of our Community Service Co-Chairs! Tonner is a junior from Louisville, KY double majoring in Psychology and MHS with a minor in Spanish, which keeps her busy preparing for a career as a physician. When not finding you some exciting volunteer opportunities, Tonner is on the Vanderbilt Varsity Swim Team, a member of Project Sunshine, a volunteer at the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, and a researcher in the Donahue Lab. In her free time, she loves to go to the lake, listen to country music, cook, and walk her dog.

Carly Kinzer: Service Co-Chair

 

Next up is our wonderful returning Service Co-Chair, Carly Kinzer! Carly is a senior from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, double majoring in Neuroscience and MHS. She loves dancing for Vitality Dance Company and volunteering in the NICU at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. In her free time, she’s always down to explore Nashville’s alternative music scene and enjoys watching basketball, particularly her celebrity crush, Steph Curry!

Lana Trautman: Spring Break Chair

Please help us in welcoming our new Spring Break Chair, Lana Trautman! Lana is a sophomore from Minneapolis, MN double majoring in MHS and Asian Studies, hoping to one day become a pediatric surgeon. When she’s not preparing for wonderful Spring Break volunteering opportunities, you can find Lana on MLC Board and in the SENSE Lab. She is also passionate about studying Korean, and is living in the McTyeire Korean Hall as a part of its pilot year.

Ivy Han: Treasurer

Next up, we are pumped to welcome our new Treasurer, Ivy Han! Ivy is a sophomore from Rockville, MD double majoring in Child Development and MCB, hoping to one day become a pediatrician. When she’s not keeping up with AED’s books, Ivy is a member of the Vanderbilt Emergency Medical Society (VEMS), a volunteer with Begin with Books, and a researcher in Page-McCaw Lab studying wound healing. When doing something non-premedy, you can find Ivy painting and making smoothies.

Nicole Wright: PR Chair

My name is Nicole Wright, and I am AED's PR Chair this year! A junior originally from Houston, TX, I am double majoring in Chemistry and Neuroscience with a focus on pursuing a career in medical research. When I'm not sending you the beloved TWIA, I am an RA to the best freshman on campus (s/o Scales 3!), along with being involved in Vitality Dance Company, VSG, and the Townsend Lab. When I need a break from the hustle and bustle of the pre-med life, I love to read trashy romance books, spend countless hours on YouTube, and binge BBC murder mystery shows.
